60527067 - employee handbook on a wooden table and glasses. The #MeToo movement continues to be the object of widespread focus with policies and has implications for employment relationships of all kinds. If you haven’t done so already, now is a good time to review your employee handbook’s section on harassment:

  • Is your policy strong enough?
  • Is your reporting procedure accessible enough? Is it written in such a way that employees clearly understand how to make a complaint?

Once you’ve drafted any necessary updates and discussed them with your legal counsel, you’re halfway done. You now need to make sure your employees are aware of the changes to policy. Include an update in your next regular staff meeting, or for added importance, call a special all-staff gathering to discuss the new additions to your handbook and create a respectful space for questions and feedback. You may also consider getting written acknowledgements that your staff has been apprised of the handbook updates.
